Serving Jesus

Well as I have been preaching this entire year about being a servant of God, we have discovered that many want  to serve the Lord providing it is convenient.  To that I must convey this bit of insight I have learned over the years.  In Genesis 22 the Lord spoke with Abraham instructing him to take Issac his only son, that God had promised and delivered, and offer him upon the altar before the Lord.  In that passage we find every detail from the Lord for Abraham to follow, to which he did completely.  As I read this passage I see the concerns of Abraham the father for his son, and the concerns of Issac about the supplies for sacrifice and even at his young age of Issac at that time he was aware of of the details offering sacrifices, evidently he was taught by his father.  To the point of this is in this passage I see everything Abraham has everything he needs, and God instructed him in every detail, however I do not see one thing.  I do not see where God asked Abraham's permission to offer Issac as a sacrifice, no it's not there because I have checked.  What we see is that God doesn't need Abraham's permission, what he needed and wanted was Abraham's willingness. The same is true today for you and I, when the Lord uses us in Hie servant  He NEVER needs our permission because He purchased us with the blood of Jesus. The Apostle Paul writes in 1 Cor 7 that we are "bought with a price, be ye not servants of men".  Therefore I too must adhere to the words of the Lord and follow wherever He leads us.  If I believe the Word of God and I do, then He doesn't need my permission but mine and Katherine's willingness to follow Him regardless of whether or not we are ready.
With this in mind I must first say to  the many readers that have been so kind to read this blog from time to time and for that I am thankful and humbled.  I have for some time sensed that the Lord might be going to do something with Katherine and I and now we know  We are moving to Arley First Baptist Church in Arley Alabama to serve as their Senior Pastor.  When the Lord does these things in our lives it provides a dichotomy of emotions rushing through our mind.  First there is the relationships we have built here at Friendship and the many lives we have been blessed to be a part of.  Those relationships will not end simply because we are moving to another area, no they will continue on and with the technology today offers, those relationships can still flourish.  Then there is the excitement of watching all God has in store for us in this new field. New relationships, new opportunities to present Jesus and new additions to the Kingdom of God.

With all that being said, I say farewell to you all and pray the Lord will sustain you throughout the days ahead.  Please pray for Katherine and I as we step into this next phase of our lives.  Have a blessed day.

Looking ahead

Greetings in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!  It is July, the 4th is gone and now almost everyone is looking ahead to the rest of this year.  This time last year we here in Alabama were in the midst of an unprecedented drought. Brown has taken over the green of the summer, and everyone was talking about the lack of rain and how things hadn't been this dry in years.  Most of the people in this world do not clearly understand this fact, it is not nations or governments or evil dictators that control this world, it is ALMIGHTY GOD who is in complete control.

Now on to the thought at hand, looking ahead, July is the marker that most use to look towards the end of this year.  Business are already putting out products for Halloween and Thanksgiving.  Where has the time gone, it seems just a few days ago that we were kicking this new year off and now we are preparing for school to begin another year, football season is just a few days from beginning, and by the time we figuratively turn around we will be planning family time for Christmas.  I have mentioned all of this for this reason, As we plan and prepare and stock up on the things needed for the remainder of the year, let  us not forget that the greatest planning anyone can do is to plan for Eternity.  As each day comes and goes so quickly, just a few hours,  events and  unexpected detours in our lives can really put us face to face with the reality that this life as a human is really short in light of eternity.  The Bible teaches us that man's days shall be 3 score and ten years (70 years), and anything more is by the grace of God. And we hear every day of those who have reached the Century mark and what a celebration that really is.  How can one prepare for the "What if" in our lives?  How can we "be ready" for that last day, moment, breath?  I declare to you that one can know for sure that if the next breath should be the last here upon earth, one will indeed spend eternity in the glorious presence of the Lord.  John wrote in his Epistle that we can know that we indeed have eternal life (1 John 5:13) and that knowledge comes form having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Salvation is not based upon what you or I can or have or even could do, no we cannot live good enough to save ourselves and in the same manner could we live so terribly that we could lose our salvation. No Salvation is based upon the work of Jesus Christ, His sacrifice upon the Cross and His fact that He gave His life's blood for my sins and yours.  Therefore we know that salvation is only based upon what Jesus did and His ability to keep that which He promised.  He said that WHOSOEVER believes on Him would NOT perish but have Eternal life.  He said that NO man was able to puck us out of HIS Father's hand.  It is about what Jesus did and not about us, which is what John meant. We can know because its about Jesus.  The Apostle Paul tells us that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise which is the down payment of our inheritance. That's exciting to know that God sent our earnest gift so we would know for sure that when we confess Jesus as Lord, confess our sins and repent from them, and invited Jesus into our hearts as Lord and King! Praise the Lord for this assurance. I hope you have that, I hope and pray that you can look ahead beyond today with the confidence that Jesus is Lord and Savior of your life.  I hope you have a blessed day!  Until next time,

Dr. Roger

Spring is in the Air

Hello again,  there is a tinge of green on the hillside, and trees are blooming and flowers are protruding up form the ground all of which is indicative of the fact that Spring is in the Air.   I am not sure where you are located as you read my thoughts however if you are in Alabama, you are aware that Spring Break is here.  In our county the last week of March is the designated time of Spring Break and I am hearing from people of all ages the anticipation of that time when kids are out of school and the temperature is warming up causing a certain anticipation of summer and vacations and all that summer brings.  As we approach this season we call Spring, my mind races ahead to Easter and as I think back to the days gone by when I was young and would hear my parents and their parents speak about how Easter is upon us.  I remember as a child seeing the spring colors in the clothes people would wear to church.  Easter meant a new pair of Sunday shoes for me, and a new suit for church. Everyone knew that coming right after Easter for us in our area was what is known as Decorations.  This is where families gather in the cemetery's to put fresh or new flowers on the graves of loved ones who have passed away.  I remember the work that went into getting the cemetery ready.  White sand was brought in and weeds were pulled up and the sand was mounded up and every grave whether you knew them or not was sacred.  You were not to walk on those graves or you would face the consequences.  Easter was the beginning of that time of year for me.  But now many years later and with much more wisdom and discernment I realize that Easter is the time of year we celebrate the Death, Burial and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The  time God once and for all time supplied the atonement for all sin for all mankind.  The time when Jesus went to the cross at Calvary and literally nailed all sin to the cross and cried out "it is finished" (John 19:30) resonates in my mind more than anything else.  Churches are preparing now for services on Easter, many have Sunrise services and all of the festivities related to Easter will be on the list of things to do.  Good Friday is still on the list of official Holiday's and while it is a day set aside in rememberance of that day long ago when Jesus was crucified, to so many in our world today it is only a day off from work.  I shutter at the thought of the day when God literally changed the entire process of mankind communicating with Him from that of the High Priest alone entering into the Holy of Holies, and presenting on our behalf our atoning sacrifice, to tearing the Veil of the Temple in twain and allowing you and I to enter into that place personally and pray to Holy God with out a middle man so to speak.  What makes me shutter is to think that this day is to so many "just another holiday".   What a blessing was given to mankind that day in addition to eternal salvation through the work of Jesus Christ.  I love Easter, the spring of the year and the newness of life that is seen in the plants and trees and the colors of this season.

It is my prayer that you will find a special meaning from this time of year and certainly from Easter, for Jesus is Lord of all and desires to be Lord of your life as well.
If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus and would like to know more about the Gift of Life that Jesus offers, feel free to contact me right here through our website.  I would love to share Jesus' plan of Salvation with you so that Easter can be more than just another holiday in in your life.
If you do not have a church to call home, come join us as my guest, I would be so thrilled to have you join us any Sunday, especially this Sunday morning.

Have a blessed day!

New Year, New Challenges, New Victories

Well here we are at the beginning of February, the NCAA National Championship has been decided, Super Bowl 51 is set to be play in a few days, a New President has been sworn in and America is back on track for another year.  This year will offer to all on earth, the opportunity to succeed in the challenges that will arise, or to fail but the choice is there for all.  Whether your team won the Championship or is in the Super bowl or perhaps your not in anyway concerned about either, one thing is for sure, you are facing a New Year the same as every one else.  You have the chance to make a impact on this year or allow this year to impact you which ever happens you still have a choice.  As I study and prepare my own heart for this year and I perceive the next challenge that my family and I could face, I am reminded of those found within the Word of God who faced similar challenges and have through their faith in the Lord and His abilities survived and succeeded.  I look at their circumstance and wonder within my heart, if I should be faced with that same situation would I handle it in the same manner or would I attempt to face it on my own and alone?  Perhaps you have the same emotions, questions as do I, and wonder what do I do to prepare myself for that occasion should they arise?  I would like to share with you my thoughts on this and hopefully encourage you as well throughout this year.

As I read God's word I find the similarity between myself and those found in the Scripture to be that we each face our own challenges, or tribulations with a certain amount of human fear.  Not the fear one would have if they heard their Doctor give them a diagnosis of a terminal disease, rather the fear of uncertainty.  Now I am in no way minimizing the news of that diagnosis, because within my family I have heard that news and it is devastating in itself.  I am speaking of the fear you and I have when we are not certain of what the future, even tomorrow might bring. When I sense this fear coming on in my personal life, I turn to the Word of God for comfort and peace of mind and guidance.  One of the first places I turn in the Scripture is Psalm 56:1-3 which reads" Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee" (KJV).  Now there is not enough words within my vocabulary to adequately explain to you the times I have found myself at this passage of scripture reading verse 3 over and over because of my circumstance.  I have many times went to this passage and countless times over and referred others to read it for their situation and not once has the Written Word of God left me discouraged or depressed.  I have because of my weakened spiritual condition and lack of faith found myself asking the Lord for forgiveness because I had not turned to Him quicker, but He has never let me down.  There is another passage that quickly comes to mind is found in Isaiah's writings.  Is. 43:19 says in the KJV - Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.  When I am facing decisions I look to God's Word comfort.  I have found great solace in reading the Bible and while I have read and studied the Bible for many years I have learned this one thing, and that is the Word of God is ALIVE!!!!

As we look ahead, this year has the potential of being the best year in the history of mankind and at the same time it proposes the chance to go down liken unto one as described by President Roosevelt did the day Pearl Harbor was attacked, one of infamy.  The outcome of this year is hidden to us as humans but to our God He is aware of every minute detail and has never been caught off guard, not even one second. For that reason, I find great comfort knowing this, even though I am not privy to the events of the next hour, let alone the next eleven months, I know God certainly is. He is everywhere, and knows everything, and strong enough to handle it all without even breaking a sweat.  It is my conviction that the Lord is aware of the events that are happening in the capitol Washington DC, as well as in Jerusalem simultaneously, He is also keenly aware of your circumstance right now regardless of what it may be,.  I am convinced He cares enough about us that if Jesus had not come to earth, lived the perfect life, died and rose again already, He would send Him even now just for you and me.  I know God is ready for what ever this year will bring, and He is ready for whatever your situation is and He is ready with ample forgiveness and grace to welcome you with open arms, to forgive, and forget our sins without question.

The question now is, are you ready for this new year?  Are you ready for the challenges of this year?  Is your relationship with the Lord one that you can go to Him with your every need, and find comfort?  Are you ready to face the fact this could be our last day on this earth? I am certain we can cast all of our cares on the Lord because He cares for us.

If you are not ready to face the Lord in eternity, you can right now by simply realizing that all people, you, me, and those across the waters are sinners according to Romans 3:9.  However even in our sins, God cared for us so much He sent Jesus, His only Son to become our atoning Sacrifice, to pay our sin debt which we cannot pay, all because He loves us.  So regardless of your situation, God will, if you repent which means to turn away from that sin, forgive you of your sins and set you on a path under His leadership transforming you into His servant.  The Apostle Paul teaches us in his letter to the church at Corinth, if anyone is in Christ ( that means if you have Trusted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, inviting Him into your heart), you are a new creation, because old things are past away and all things become new.  I trust you are a "new" creation through Jesus Christ.

I want to thank you for visiting our website, and for taking time out of your busy day to read my blog, I am truly honored that you stop by and feel free to leave a message letting me know your thoughts.

May the Lord richly bless you is my sincere prayer;

Dr. Roger White

Looking at the New Year 2017

Its that time again, it seems like it was just yesterday we were facing the year 2016 wondering what it would bring, how we would fair, and who would see it to the end.   Many have faced it with courage, and fearlessness while others have crumpled underneath it's hardships. There have been many tragedy's which have claimed the lives of people around the world. Likewise there have been many triumph's that have lifted the spirits of people and encouraged nations around the world.  In America we have survived yet another election and there will be pro's and con's that we will face as the results for sure.  Whether or not you are happy with the results of the election is not relative, because we will all have a new president come January 2017 and this is our Country and what happens from here we will all see together. I am convinced that the person who sits in the President's seat is not the one who will hold our futures, nor will the congress or any other elected official. It is my belief that the Lord Jesus Christ holds our future, and He clearly told us in His word that we would have tribulations in this earth if we chose to follow Him, but not to fear, because He has overcome the World (John 16:33).  He also told us through King Solomon, the remedy for a Nation to be restored and healed in His sight, which is found in 2 Chronicles 7:14 which reads “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn (repent) from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (NKJV)  Therefore I believe this Country can be Great again,  but not in the eyes of men, or other nations, but in the eyes of God. If we will but take the remedy and follow it to the letter, there are great days ahead for America however they will only come through a return of God's people to Him!

Now having said all of that, its time to look ahead to the coming New Year.  At our house, which we affectionately call "The White House", 2016 has been quite difficult.  My Sweetie (Katherine, my wife of 35 years) has had 4 hip surgeries on the same hip, and a serious neck surgery all in this year, so needless to say we are certainly looking for a New Year to begin.  With a New Year many people make resolutions for the coming year. Things they intend to do or determined not to do, most of which never make it through the first week, let alone the entire year.  At the "White House" we don't make "New Year's resolutions for that reason.  Many years ago we decided that we would take the time to examine our past year, the events that happened, both good and not so good, and see how we handled them, and make a commitment to work harder at those areas of disappointments and discouragement and be more faithful and committed to not allow our lives to be controlled by those situations.  We also decided the coming of a new year was also a great time to examine our relationship with the Lord and upon discovering our successes give the glory to the Lord and uncovering our failures commit the the Lord to devote ourselves more in the New Year to His Kingdom work and purpose for our lives.  Truth is none of us know what this 2017 will bring to our homes and hearts, yet we all have the opportunity to make a difference in this world if we as Christians, followers of Jesus Christ, commit in 2017 to trust the Lord more with those things we feel we can handle as they appear, then when difficult times and decisions arise, our relationship with the Lord will carry us through these most difficult times.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, everyone who has visited our site, read our news, listened to a sermon or read this blog, because without you and the many others like you we would not be able to share Friendship abroad.  It is our prayer that you and your family have the very best New Year in 2017.  That you will take this time to reflect upon 2016, your highs and lows, and make a commitment to strengthen your weaknesses in 2017, strive to better your success and devote more time to your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
If you do not have a Church home and live in the area of our church come by and visit with us.  If you have never trusted Jesus as your Savior, I pray that in 2017 before its too late you will take time and invite Jesus into your heart and home as Lord and Savior.  If you do not live in this area, you can visit our site anytime you like, listen to sermons and hear the Gospel and the way to receive Jesus into your heart.  You can also contact me through this site, by email, or phone or letter whichever is your preference.  We have a prayer page you can post your prayer requests there anytime.

May the Lord bless you richly in the New Year is my prayer,

Dr. Roger White, Senior Pastor
